Senator Dino Melaye allegedly splashes $24,000 on new luxury car

Senator Dino Melaye who represents Kogi West senatorial district at the National Assembly is a man who likes luxury cars, from all indications. The chairman of the senate committee on media has been known to drive beautiful cars, the acquisition of which he often ascribes to God’s blessings. In light of the current economic crisis in Nigeria however, not many may be willing to cheer on a public official making costly acquisitions.

According to Sahara Reporters, Senator Dino Melaye may not have cared much about such sentiments while allegedly making his latest purchase, a 2015 Slingshot estimated to cost $24,000 (about N4.78 million).

14-year-old Ese Oruru has been rescued from her captors, and she’s now in the custody of the Federal Government.

Ese Oruru was abducted eight months ago from Bayelsa State by a tricycle driver known as Yinusa, a.k.a Yellow.

Yinusa had taken the girl to Kano, converted to Islam and forcefully married her.

Following Sunday’s launch of the “Free Ese” Campaign by Punch Newspapers, the authorities took action and a series of events led to Ese’s release- which was communicated on Monday evening by former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili.

ECOBANK SACKS SEVERAL SENIOR MANAGERS

Ecobank Nigeria Plc, early last week sacked several of it’s staff including senior managers.

No fewer than fifty of them were laid off.

 Source said those mostly affected in the current purge included senior managers in the range of Managers, Assistant General Managers, Deputy General Managers and General Managers, with monthly emoluments of between N1 million and N2 million.

It was learnt that the bank reportedly took the hard decision to scale down its overheads in the wake of declining earnings occasioned by falling crude and commodity prices.

The latest retrenchment of senior management staff was believed to be one of the cost cutting measures adopted by the bank to reduce its huge wage bill to hedge the harsh headwinds threatening the profitability of most businesses in the past 15 months.

23,846 ghost workers yanked off FG payroll

The Federal Government on Sunday, revealed that it has removed 23,846 ghost workers from its payroll.

As a result of the commencement of the BVN audit process in December 2015, it came to the fore in January 2016 that tens of thousands of faceless workers were on the payroll of the government.

The removal of the 23, 846 non-existent workers is said to have greatly shrunk the government’s payroll for February 2016 by N2.293 billion.

A statement was released to this effect by the Federal Ministry of Finance, Kemi Adeosun.

“This figure represents a percentage of the number of non-existent workers who had hitherto been receiving salary from various ministries, departments and agencies.”

Obasanjo’s son involved in ‘ghastly auto accident’

Oba Obasanjo, the son of former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, was on Sunday, involved in a ghastly auto accident .

According to Sahara Reporters, the accident occurred while Oba was on his way from Ilesha in Osun state.

The report states that Oba had gone to attend the 75th birthday party ceremony of his stepmother, Mabel, when the accident ensued.

An eyewitness was quoted to have revealed that the car Obasanjo’s son was driving was completely wrecked while the occupants were reported to have sustained critical injuries.

SR further stated that Oba and the other victims of the accident have been taken to the University teaching Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo state for treatment.

Benue massacre: Stop herdsmen before they wipe out our people, Idoma beg Buhari

Violence significantly decreased in much of northern and western Syria on Saturday, the first day of a truce brokered by the United States and Russia, even amid reports of scattered violations, including incidents of bombing, shelling and at least one aerial attack.

Russia said it was suspending, at least for the day, the airstrikes it had been conducting for five months in support of the Syrian government, and residents in many areas enjoyed a few tentative hours of calm.

While speaking during a meeting in Saudi Arabia, President Buhari said he had a different opinion on the N5000 stipend his party promised to give to unemployed Nigerians when they come into power.

Buhari said he would rather use the N5000 to repair the infrastructures in schools and empower mining and agriculture than to give the money to people who don't work;

 “This largesse of N5,000 for the unemployed, I have got a slightly different priority. I would rather do the infrastructure for the school that request them and empower agriculture, mining so that every able bodied person can go and get work instead of giving 5,000, N5,000 to those who don’t work.”-Buhari

Hello Ghana: Woman Accused of Raping Female Friend with 'Dildo' in Court (Photos)

A 26-year-old woman, Queeny Akuffo, has been charged to court for raping another woman in Ghana.

Her 22-year-old victim told the court on Wednesday that she carried out chores for the accused and on the day that the incident occurred, she was invited by the accused to cook for her.
She is said to have sedated Amoakwa, who is her neighbour and raped her with an artificial penis, 
otherwise called a dildo at Ablekuma in the Ga West District of Greater Accra.

According to the family, it is said that the governor only donated N1million to Paul and nothing more and that only N400k was given to them out of the 1million naira that was promised. The family is still seeking help from well meaning Nigerians. They are currently working on Paul's papers to fly him to India for surgery
