Protesters Demand Saraki’s Resignation As They Besiege National Assembly
According to saharaReporters, a group under the aegis of the
Opened Society and Good Governance Initiative stormed the National Assembly
calling for the immediate resignation of the embattled Senate President Bukola
Saraki to allow him to face his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT)
saying he is unfit to preside over the Nigerian Senate.The placard-carrying
protesters also called on the Senate not to gag Senator Kabiru Marafa over his
comment on the legislative body’s action on 2016 budget controversies.
They
described the move by the upper chamber to suspend Mr. Marafa as political repression
and a witch-hunt. They maintained that it is Mr. Saraki is liable for
suspension but not Mr. Marafa.

A Nigerian UK-based medical doctor identified
as Dr. Chin Akano, was in the country earlier this month for one mission - to
marry a new bride.
According to reports, the marriage ceremony
was going on as planned in Nkwerre, Imo state, but from the blues, his wife of
over 19 years, Ngozi Madukaife-Akano, a UK-trained nurse, who arrived Nigeria
before her husband, turned up at the venue with women from her village to
disrupt the marriage ceremony.
As expected, a fight ensued. According to eye
witnesses, the new bride and her sisters attacked Ngozi Madukaife-Akano and
tore her clothes to shreds. The shocked husband sat down in one corner and
observed the whole drama playing out before him.
Buhari turns down Saudi Arabia’s offer to join ‘coalition of Islamic states against terror’
President Muhammadu Buhari has rejected the offer given to
Nigeria by Saudi Arabia to join forces as a coalition of Islamic states against
terrorism.
President
Buhari jetted out to Saudi Arabia on Monday, February 22 to meet with King
Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz in bilateral talks in the bid to stable the plummeting
price of oil.
It would appear however, that discussions about oil prices is
not the only objective of the president’s journey.
According to Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesman,
President Buhari and King Salman had extensive talks on global issues and both
agreed that terrorism is a threat to their countries and therefore needs close
cooperation to wipe out.
Even
though President Buhari did not accept the invitation offered to Nigeria to be
a part of the coalition of Islamic states against terror spearheaded by Saudi
Arabia, he did say ‘even if we are not a part of it, we support you’.
Celebrity Kannywood actress, Aisha Dankano passes on
Popular actress, Aisha
Dankano, passed on this morning at her home in Kano after a brief illness.The
nature of her illness is yet unknown and according to Islamic rites, she has
been laid to rest Aisha was below 40, family sources said.
“Aisha
died at about 2pm this afternoon,” Abdullahi said. “We are all in a sober mood
in the Kannywood at the moment.
“We
might not get her replacement in the industry. She is a fantastic, creative

EFCC Arrests Ex-Minister, Abba Moro and Others Over 2014 Immigration Recruitment Scam
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday
arrested a former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, over the Nigerian
Immigration recruitment scam in which no fewer than 20 job seekers died.
Also arrested by the anti-graft agency were former Permanent
Secretary in the ministry, Anaesthesia Nwaobia, and a deputy director who
allegedly facilitated the scam.
A source at the commission, who cannot be named because she
is not authorised to speak on the matter, said the three suspects were picked
up in the evening.
“They were brought into the commission’s headquarters today
and will be arraigned on a 12-count charge in the Federal High Court Abuja on
Tuesday,” the source said.
Three Year Old Child Sues T.B Joshua, Others For Death Of Father
Specifically, the claimants' mother, Amina Busseh Bashi, a citizen of Democratic Republic of Congo, through their lawyer, Bolaji Ayorinde SAN, asked the court to order Pastor Joshua, the Registered Trustees Synagogue Church Of All Nations, Jadny Trust Limited, Hardrock Construction and Engineering Company, Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun to pay the sum of R10,000,000.00 (ten million) as damages for loss of earnings and support they have missed due to the death of their father.
They claim that their father died due to the negligent acts of the church and Pastor Joshua.
They are also asking the court to direct the defendants to pay the claimants the sum of N30 million, being the legal cost and solicitors fee incurred by the claimants in prosecuting the action.
Also sued are: Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Lagos state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Black women from around the world are rallying behind a Bahamian school pupil, using the phrase "Support The Puff".
The girl pictured above, Tayjha Deleveaux is a pupil at the CR
Walker Senior High School in The Bahamas. Earlier this month, she turned up to
class with an "afropuff" hairstyle.
For this, she was allegedly threatened with suspension by her school
principal, T Nicola Mckay, saying her appearance was deemed "untidy",
her hair seen as "unruly" and against school rules. In one report, the principal said she was trying to clamp
down on students wearing their hair in a way that "looks like it would not
have been combed for days".
This upset Tayjha Deleveaux' mother, who posted her daughter's
picture on Facebook with
a message in defence of her hair, saying she was "standing up"
against "foolishness". The debate hit a chord with many people on
social media, who posted pictures of their own hairstyles using the hashtags
#supportthepuff and #isupportthepuff.
This is just a case of being victimized because of the
colour of your skin and the texture of your hair.

President Buhari in Saudi Arabia for oil talks
President Muhammadu Buhari is in Saudi Arabia for
talks with officials likely to be dominated by efforts to stabilize the global
oil market.
Oil prices have plunged to
their lowest levels in nearly 13 years largely. This is largely blamed on
over supply and the Opec refusal to cut production.
The president is to meet King
Salman in Riyadh before travelling on to Qatar.

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KCFB) has banned a music
video promoting gay rights in the country "on moral grounds".
One of the songs banned was the song, "Same Love
(Remix)" by Art Attack ,a remix of an original song by Macklemore and Ryan
Lewis in 2012.
It is described on YouTube as "a Kenyan song about
same-sex rights and civil liberties for all sexual orientations."

US Senator Claire McCaskill says she has breast cancer.
The Democratic senator revealed in a blog post Monday that the
cancer was detected through a regular mammogram and she will be in St. Louis
for the next three weeks receiving treatment.
She said "it's a little
scary" but her prognosis is good and she expects a full recovery.
McCaskill
said she will post on her website how she would have voted on any matters that
come before the Senate while she is gone.
She is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party who
serves as the senior United States Senator from Missouri. The first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from
Missouri in her own right, she defeated Republican incumbent Jim
Talent in the 2006 election, by a margin of 49.6% to 47.3%.

Employer damages 13-year-old apprentice’s scrotum
A 13year-old apprentice photographer, Pelumi Fawibe, is yet to
recover from pains after his employer, Olajide Olaoye, reportedly damaged his
scrotum while he was beating him with a wire for being stubborn.
Its been reported that the boy
had been living with the said boss for three years before the incident happened
on Sunday, February 15, at his shop in Ile Epo bus stop, Badagry, Lagos.
Fawibe was said to have been
admitted to the Badagry General Hospital, while the boss was arrested by the
police from Area K, but was released afterwards.
An eyewitness, who identified himself only as Gbade, said the
extent of the injury to Fawibe’s private parts prompted people to alert the
police.

Abuja, Charles Okah, is currently at the National Hospital in the Federal
Capital Territory recuperating from haemorrhoids (piles) surgery. He was before his admission to the hospital on remand along with
his co-accused, Nwabueze, at the Kuje Prison, Abuja.Though Nwabueze was produced in court in Monday, the trial
judge, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, had to adjourn the case due to the first
defendant’s absence.The judge then adjourned the case till March 10 after the
prosecuting counsel, Dr. Alex Izinyon (SAN), gave an update on Okah’s medical

Lagos Strange Killer Disease: Laboratory Tests Show Measles Virus
Lagos State Government, has confirmed that the blood samples of
victims of the epidemic of febrile rash illness that claimed the lives of over
20 children in Otodo Gbame community in Eto-Osa Local Government Area of the
state showed measles virus. Giving an update at a briefing in Lagos, the state
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, said all the blood samples taken to
the Central Public Health Laboratory, Yaba, tested positive for IgM, a blood
marker for recent infection with measles virus. He added that four throat swaps
and one blood samples investigated at the virology
reference
laboratory, LUTH, indicated the presence of measles virus through polymerase
chain reaction, PCR, technique. He attributed the epidemic to poor
environmental sanitation, lack of potable water in the area and missed
immunisation in the area.
