The Management of Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, Lagos said
that Miss Charity Dazan, a student of Yaba College of Technology, was brought
to the hospital at 1.10 a.m. before she later died at 1.20 a.m.
This is
contained in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by
the Head, Clinical Services, Dr Olubukola Aseru, in Lagos on Thursday.
The statement
said that the patient came in poor condition, on Wednesday, Feb.10 with a nurse
from Yaba College of Technology.
According to
the statement, the patient who was very weak, complained of general body
weakness and pain which she said started on Sunday, Feb.2 afternoon.
She was
referred from the medical centre of the institution, it said.
It said that
she was very pale, cold and clammy, anxious and gasping.
“We
commenced emergency care immediately, vital signs done, temperature was 35.5°C.
“The patient
was feeble, respiration gasping, block pressure was undetectable, oxygen
therapy was commenced immediately, and blood sample collected, for blood
transfusion.
“Normal
Saline 0.9per cent,500mls was set up to run fast, foot of the bed elevated,
intravenous hydrocortisone, 100mg given, cardiac massage done, all
resuscitative measures carried out proved abortive.
“The patient
stopped breathing at 1:20a.m. (within ten minutes on arrival).
“The corpse
was taken back by the same ambulance that brought her to the hospital,” it
said.
The
statement said that it was unfortunate that the misinformation about sequence
of events had caused extra pain to relatives and friends of the lady. (NAN)
