Help has come finally for Paul Arisa as Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu who sent his Personal Physician, Mike Enyinnaya and his SSA on New Media, Newman Ubani Ubani to visit cancer patient, Paul Arisa at his hospital bed, has directed that Paul alongise one care giver be flown to the US for treatment. Travel arrangements are already being made.

UK SPENDS £1.35 MILLION ON CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIP FOR 45 NIGERIAN SCHOLARS IN 2015

The UK says it has spent approximately £1,350,000 (approximately 400 million naira) in sponsoring 45 Nigerian Chevening scholars currently in the UK universities for the 2015/2016 session.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Paul Arkwright, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at a welcome reception for the 2014/2015 Chevening scholars who just returned from UK.

According to him, over 1,000 Nigerians had benefitted from the scholarship since its inception in 1984.

“The average cost of an award is £30,000. The UK spent approximately £1,350,000 in sending the

45 scholars currently in the UK universities for the 2015/2016 cycle.

“We want to promote young people in Nigeria; we want to help them to achieve their aims, ambitions and goals. We want to provide some of the very best education that this world has to offer in some of the very best universities in the world,” he said.

According to the high commissioner, I am really pleased that we have expanded the programme, that we have increased the numbers of young talented Nigerians.

75-year-old pensioner slumps, dies during screening in Edo

Here was outrage on Tuesday by pensioners of the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State after a local government pensioner, identified as Sunday Oboite, slumped and died during screening.

It was learnt that Oboite, 75, died at the reception of the local government secretariat.

It was gathered that the late pensioner, who retired from the Works department of the council, was at the secretariat for screening which the council had directed the pensioners to undertake before they would be paid their 10-month pension arrears.

He was said to have been offered a bottle of beverage and some water by a Good Samaritan after he complained of hunger.

Gianni Infantino caused a surprise by polling the most votes in round one of voting in Friday's election to succeed Sepp Blatter as Fifa president.

Infantino saw off stiff competition from Sheikh Salman to secure election with 115 of the 207 votes. This after the ballot went on for a second round.

Nigeria: Fresh fuel crisis looms over dollar shortage

Speculations are on about the fact that Nigerians may witness another round of fuel crisis soon following complaints by importers of petrol about scarcity of dollars to bring in the product.

They also claimed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had not promptly signed agreements to exchange crude oil for fuel.

Similarly, the fuel marketers said that the inability to access adequate foreign exchange from the banks was hampering fuel importation.

Already, fuel queues by motorists and other people have surfaced in some parts of Lagos and other cities.

VIDEO: "Why We Cannot Expel Cadets Who Tortured Man For Complimenting Female Officer"-NDA Commandant

Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, yesterday explained why it could not expel some cadets captured on video torturing a civilian for no just reason. Nigerians cried out in condemnation of the cadets led by a female, who were shown in a video clip, which went viral last month, dehumanizing a young man later identified as Amari Sunday, a staff of Abuja Park “N” Pay, for allegedly commending the beauty of one of the female cadets. Sunday later, in an interview with channels television, said the real reason why he was tortured was because he wasn't fast enough when one of the unruly cadets had demanded his attention. While majority of Nigerians called for the expulsion of the cadets, the Commandant of the elite Nigerian military training institution, Major General Mohammed Ibrahim, said they could not be expelled because the time to prosecute them had lapsed.
