Yesterday on my
radio program with a relationship/marriage counsellor, we had pastor
Kennedy Asegieme talk about bestfriends in marriage and how friendship should
be “it” for married couples.
These days singles
in relationships fare better than the married ones. Check out, in a typical Nigerian marriage,
you can sense that tensed atmosphere where wives are stressed and
scared of their husbands and husbands continually releasing the air of forced dominance and
control over their homes such that there isn’t any le#vel of friendship between them thereby making marriage feel like a business deal between both parties.
It was quite an
eye opener to realize than singles even hold hands in public while taking a
stroll down the street than married couples. I kept on pondering while
Pastor kennedy was speaking on what the problem might really is; until the phone
lines were opened for listeners to call in to ask questions. Just then got a whatsapp
message from a married woman who was having a tough time with her mother
InLaw...
please read and advice her on what to do in this predicament.

Good evening,
My name is peace, I
didn’t know there is a program like this, please when will you discuss the role
of a mother in law in marriage, because my mother in treats me like a slave and
not a wife, not once did I ever feel loved from her and my mom treat my husband
as his son, she respects him so much. I am married for 3yrs now, ever since she
came to the house when I gave birth 2yrs ago, she has refuse to go back. she condemns
my food, wakes me up by 4am everyday saying am lazy, she keeps demanding all
sort of food from me, if I cook, she says she want a different food. I sleep 11pm or sometimes 12am,if I complain to
my husband and he talks to her, she says am creating enemity between she and
her son, in the mid night she knocks at our door saying she want this and that,
she can wake me more than 3times at night, even when am making love to my husband,
she keeps knocking.. Now I left to stay with my friend beauty but everyday my
husband keeps begging me to come back home but I told him if his mother don't leave
i wont come back cos I am also someone's daughter, but do you think am a bad
wife for saying she should leave before I can come back? what if she start
telling people that I told her son to send her away? She can come to visit but
living with us…I have had enough.
