The absurdity portrayed by society regarding marriage is mind bugling. Women are not only pressured by their parents anymore but by society, by strangers who know nothing about your day to day activities but yet seem to have an opinion of how they think you should co-ordinate your life!
Nigerian artiste and creative writer, Eva Alordiah was recently cyber-bullied by a supposed fan who thought her engagement with her boyfriend was long overdue. She had the effrontery to ask Eva Alordiah if she was the lord of the ring, seeing that she was proposed to since 2015 of which Eva corrected saying she got proposed to in 2016.
Like Jesus fix it.. who in their right minds, say that?
Every girl's gone through this harsh reality and this is the reason women take desperate measures to grab the title "Mrs" so that she is not dragged by the collar to the slaughter house. What happens next after marriage? Excuses, exclamations, lamentations and all the "tions" that make up for how she didn't see the whirlwind coming. People fail to realize that times have changed and there are more wolfs in sheep clothing than they were in our mother's time and one has to be extra careful in order not to fall a victim.
Marriages crashing before they even got started..
More kids emerging from broken home with no sense of belonging and grooming.
Just another generation of boys/girls who unfortunately would learn from the streets or from a bitter parent who is unable to forgive what their partner had done to them.
Just another generation with no complete feel of having a whole father-mother relationship under one roof with LOVE.
So,
When she is still single, she gets worried and depressed that age ain't on her side..
Then she gets married and barely two years, she is under pressure by her mother-in-law for grand kids and when that doesn't happen...ooOh, the fear that her husband might take another wife in, takes her toll on her and she becomes barren because of anxiety.
Oh society, let the woman be for you have done more damage to the individual family unit such that the whole system is messed up with depressed women, cheating men and emotionally unstable children. That is the reason why our Nigerian society ain't functioning and never will until we learn to be considerate of each other's feelings.
To every woman who's come of age and not yet gotten married but is under pressure put in by herself, by her friends, by strangers or her parents, please STOP. You are killing yourself and putting your life on hold for such reason. Be yourself. Don't worry about what other people are thinking of you, because they're probably feeling the same kind of scared, horrible feelings that everyone does.
Shannon L. Alder once said and i quote that “Confidence is knowing who you are and not changing it a bit because of someone’s version of reality is not your reality.”
Don't let anyone's opinion of life shapen how your life should go. You are different and so are our destinies but be rest assured that if you strongly desire a thing, whatever it is. It will happen!
