Keenan Patton, 32,
has suffered with keloids – scars that don't stop growing and in his case
develop a lumpy appearance - since he was a teenager.
The fleshy growths
started after a bout of chicken pox when he was 11 and got worse as he
aged.
Mr Patton, of
Chicago, has previously undergone 28 hours of surgery to remove the tissue.
But the surgery
proved ineffective and the keloids grew back larger.
Now he hopes
specialist radiation treatment will rid him of the unsightly growths for
good.
'Doctors have said
they think this is due to my diet. I have type 2 diabetes, and they think my
blood sugar could be slowing down my healing.
'It's affected my confidence
over the years. When I stepped out the house, people would stare at me.
'But thankfully I'm a
people person so I just think people accept me.'
Mr Patton has
undergone half of his radiation treatment to remove them again and hopes this
time it will be permanent.
He had the treatment
just in time for his wedding to Monique Jackson, 32, who Mr Patton described as
'the love of my life'.
